Paisley Pretty

m crazy over paisley. a closet fan actually. but i see a lot of paisley around these days..

Paisley or Paisley pattern is a droplet-shaped vegetal motif of Indo-Aryan origin, similar to half of the Yin yang symbol, or the leaf of the Indian bodhi tree or the mango tree; or to a leech. The pattern is sometimes called "Persian pickles" by American traditionalists, especially quiltmakers,[1] or "Welsh pears" in Wales textiles as far back as 1888.[2] The pattern is also called "cashmere" after the Kashmir region from which it originated. This is also a name for the luxurious cashmere wool originating in that region.[3] To prevent confusion, "paisley" has become the more common reference to the design, with "cashmere" usually now being reserved for the wool.

High-profile iconic use

Paisley was particularly popular during the Summer of Love, heavily identified with psychedelic style and the interest in Indian spirituality and culture brought about by the pilgrimage of The Beatles there in 1968.

John Lennon
had a Rolls Royce painted with the design in 1967. Also, Fender Guitars made a Pink Paisley version of their Telecaster guitar, by sticking paisley wallpaper onto the guitar bodies.

The modern recording artist Prince paid tribute to the rock and roll history of paisley when he created the Paisley Park recording label and established Paisley Park Studios.

Damian Kulash of the band OK Go is often seen wearing paisley shirts onstage as well.

Bill Lumbergh, the incompetent boss in the motion picture Office Space, showed a particular affinity for paisley.

Elle Woods, in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, stated that no one looks good in paisley.
