Ayam Den Lapeh oi oi...

last night i manage to complete the pix slide show project for office. turned out very2 funny.. especially when i use Anita Sarawak's version of Ayam Den Lapeh. here's the top 10 highlights of the trip :

1. m determined to not let "pondan tua" to ruin the trip. at whatever cost. so most of her antiques were laughed at. but some are too extreme.. like :
a) getting off the bus at klia instead of lcct (everyone else just watch as she get off the bus & laughed)
b) being rude to the Padangians & Bukit Tinggians.. (they are very nice folks)
c) bikin kacau at almost every store we visited..
d) returned some of the stuff she bought to our guide (Anthony, sweet & cheeky Anthony).. becos she decided she didnt want them. and insisted he return her the money.. (helu.. ko beli dengan die ke??)
e) told 1 lady at the shop (when the lady told her everyone is buying the baju at the same price).. "itu saya tak tau.. yang saya tau, saya datang sini 2 orang je" .. d'uhh!!

2. The scenery. p.i.c.t.u.r.e.s.q.u.e. but mainly gunung..paddy fields. only on our way back to the airport on the last did i see the ocean. the indian ocean. and the waves was THISSS high! and from the airbus i saw the Mentawai Island ( i think, dats wut the guide told me).. and it looked fabss! w/ the waves crashing in towards the island. no wonder a lot of ah mongs on the flight to Padang w/ their surfboards.

3. The F.O.O.D. Need i say more? apart from nasi padang.. which i find only the bergedel is fab (anyone w/ the perfect bergedel recipe do buzz me). we went to this kampung and this nenek and her cucu-cucu were making lempeng kelapa. this coconut & banana pancake was sooo yummy at Rp5,000 each.. i still can taste it in my mouth everytime i see the pix. i think the trick is it is baked under kayu api. so i really dunno how to recreate this heavenly delight. The nenek told me.. its gula pasir, pisang & kelapa.

4. The kebaya. borong jangan tak borong. sorryla yummy mummy.. ur baju raya & mine sama. but that's the only red kebaya dat could accomodate us over nutrient malaysians. i couldnt buy many of em as these indon peeps r soo petite. i need to go back to my 16 year old figure to fit into it. guess that will never happen. hahahaha!

5. Lobang Jepang. located at the grand canyon of Bukit Tinggi (Ngarai Sianok). An eeri result of the japs power craze in Indonesia. a network of underground bunkers & tunnels built by the japs slaves (mainly indons not from sumatera barat). reasoning : they wont understand the local dialect should they escape. smart not? the tunnels were very creepy.. and cold. and the pixs from my camera has tiny white bubbles in em. which i believe was due to the low lighting factor. becos my supervisor who was using a T50 didnt have em (must change!!). but anthony says its hantu. wee.

6. Horse Ride! weee!! not as fab as my siem reap elephant ride.. but my white horse (yes, i specifically asked for it) has been working for 20 years! and it took me around bukit tinggi town for only Rp25,000.

7. Juice Avocado. or Jus Avokad. siap ade coklat sos. yummm! taste like pisang. go figure.

8. heaps of Malaysians were in Padang. and they make the most noise. haha! but at 1 of the restaurant we went.. it was built in the middle of the paddy fields. and 1 malaysian group did us proud by throwing the kulit pisang into the bendang.. to feed the fish. wee. kite dah merdeka how long again?? dun forget the makciks who shove & push me when they saw me holding something they like. 50 tahun ye. hmm..

9. horrifyingly tiring bus trip. bukit tinggi - padang 4 hours. lcct - ipoh .. another 4 hours. hours of waiting at lcct..endless. balik.. sume sakit. wakakkaak! on the plus side.. manage to finish The Rise and Fall of a Yummy Mummy in one sitting. wee.

10. not finishing my Rups. woohooo! mom was upset of cos. it only means i didnt buy one too many things for her. haha!
